Construction Updates for the week of August 3-7

1-26 Concrete Street Paving Project

Week of August 3rd

• VCC will be setting string line and fine grading the south lane of 9^th Street (odd address side) (M&T)
• VCC will be paving the south side of 9^th Street and fine grading is complete.

2-26 Wisconsin Avenue Area Utility Relay

• Carl Bowers & Sons – All their work has been completed.
• City of Kaukauna – Will continue placing concrete in remaining locations along Wisconsin Avenue.
• MCC Asphalt – Will be on site all week:
  • Milling Operation – Will start Monday morning. This large machine removes the top couple inches of roadway material (concrete, asphalt, gravel) to lower the road surface to a point where pavement can be placed. The machine is approximately 8′ wide and will require several passes along the road to remove the required pavement.
  • Grading Operation – Will happen upon completion of milling. This consists of large graders and rollers to come in, shape the roadway to the desired heights and slopes, and roll-compact the ground to a smooth and firm surface to accept asphalt placement.
  • Paving Operation – Will take place after grading is done. They believe this will happen next Friday and Saturday, August 7^th and 8^th . Asphalt is placed at 300°+ and then compacted with steam rollers. It gains its strength through compaction and cooling. Even after the asphalt has been in place for a bit and compacted, it can still be quite warm. Due to this, we ask that you attempt to stay off of fresh asphalt for a few hours after it has been placed to ensure no tire marks or rutting occurs. If you must drive on it the same day, please do not turn your wheels while motionless on the pavement, or it will rip up the stones within the asphalt, creating a bump. Asphalt will also be placed on sidewalks and driveways that were removed during utility work. This asphalt will act as a temporary surface for the next 5 years or so to allow any settling to take place before performing final concrete placement.
• Scott Lamers Construction – Still waiting on a firm date for when private sewer/water work will begin.

7-26 Ann Street & Main Avenue Utility Relay

• Feaker & Sons – Will start the week with water main construction up to Main Avenue intersection. They will be doing intersection tie-ins and water/sewer laterals in the roadway at the same time to catch up on remaining work between Sullivan and Main. Once this work is done, they will switch back to Sanitary Sewer main line work. The first area for this will be at the intersection of Welhouse and Ann, then moving over the Main and Ann progressing east.

General Notes

DRIVEWAYS/PARKING – Please do not park on the road while the contractor is performing their work in the area. They need plenty of room for their trucks and equipment to be able to easily, quickly, and safely complete their work. Park in your driveway if possible, or on the nearest side street.

• If you need special accommodations for parking, please reach out as we can arrange different parking options. This includes anyone with disabilities, recent surgeries, expecting mothers, and mothers with newborns that have appointments. Unfortunately, there is no “one size fits all” for parking and property access. The fewer cars that the contractor has to work around, the faster they can get the work done on your block and move on.

WORK ZONE SAFETY – While driving through the construction site, be sure to travel slowly and keep an eye out for equipment. This not only cuts down on dust, but also keeps the construction workers safe. Operators try their best to see traffic, but their view can be obstructed at times. It is always best to try and gain eye contact with equipment operators prior to driving by. You may need to wait at times before driving by depending on the work being performed. Please be patient during construction.

Utility and Street Construction is not easy. There will be dirt, mud, dust, equipment, and workers everywhere. Construction activity will be noisy, and getting to your residence will be difficult at times. We understand that it can be frustrating while it happens, but we ask for your patience and understanding as we make the much needed improvements to your street and utilities.
